Week In The Life #1: Clear-outs, Breakfasts and Manchester Open Days

Image
13/6/22-18/6/22 Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. This is going to be my very first weekly blog, so we'll see how it goes.  For context, I'm a 16 year old British expat living in the Middle East but I came home to London for the summer a couple of weeks ago. The purpose of these posts are just to give you a tiny snippet into my day, however busy or boring it may be. I won't be talking much about the people I spend time with because I don't think it's fair on them and they haven't consented to being talked about on my blog.  Hope you enjoy!  Monday Today was one of those really quiet, slightly boring days. I planned the blog posts that I want to put up for these next few months and I started reading Mrs Dalloway (I didn't get very far, though). My new mascara was delivered and I tried it out with my new products- I really like them but I'll talk more about them when I've gone out with them on. At the end of the day, I sat in bed and watched Family...

My Wish List 2020

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. I’m the type of person who goes on Amazon, eBay or any online shopping/clothing website just to look around- even if I don’t plan on buying anything. But whenever my birthday comes around, or when a friend or relative asks if I would like anything, my mind always goes completely blank. So, in this post, I’m going to be listing all the things that are on my wish list. Some of these things are more affordable and realistic than others, but some are quite expensive. I’m not saying I’ll get every single thing on this list by next week but, whenever I want to treat myself, or when it’s my birthday again, I can come back to this list. If you want some inspiration for your wishlist, or if you want to buy a present for someone else, this post is for you. Enjoy! Airpods So, we’re starting with an expensive, unrealistic one haha. If you read my July recommendations you would know that I received an iPhone for my birthday (which I am so grateful for). I would...

My Evening Routine: Summer 2020

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. In this post, I'm going to be sharing my evening routine. In my opinion, evening routines aren't talked about as much as morning routines but they're both equally important. Since I'm a morning person, I don't enjoy doing anything too intense in the evening (like studying haha) but, obviously, I'm in school for most of the year and evenings are the only chance I get to get things done. But now it's summer and (even though it is the most depressing summer of my life) I can finally figure out my own schedule and do things when I want to do them. So, without further ado, here is my summer 2020 evening routine. Enjoy! Social media Around 5 o'clock every day I spend around half an hour on social media. I try not spending time on it during the day but I do sometimes let myself go a little bit haha. But one thing I always steer clear from in the mornings and afternoons is TikTok as it is very addictive! So, I spend most of ...

20 Things I Want To Do While I'm Young

Image
Hi everyone!  Welcome back to my blog. Last week, I wrote about the goals I want to achieve when I'm fifteen (if you haven't seen the post then go check it out!) and I really enjoyed thinking about those short-term goals. So, I decided to write up a post on some longer-term goals. I wouldn't say that these are long-term goals but they should see me through the rest of my teens and twenties so they're more like medium-term goals. In no particular order, here are 20 things I want to do when I'm young. Enjoy!  1. Become fluent in another language I love learning new languages and about new cultures so I really want to be bilingual or even trilingual. I don't know my native language (Urdu) but I want to learn it or at least be able to understand it. The only thing is, I don't really know what resources to use. I also want to expand on my (very limited!) Spanish and French.  2. Publish or edit a book I've wanted to write a book for as long as I can remember b...

Turning Fifteen: Birthday Blues and Goals

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. I'm finally turning fifteen on Monday (July 6) and, truthfully, I'm having mixed feelings about this. There's something about birthdays that both excites me and terrifies me and every summer, as July gets closer, I can almost feel the years slipping through my fingers. It sounds so dramatic but growing up is thrilling yet scary and in some ways, I can't wait to get older and see where time takes me as I move through adolescence and into adulthood. I'm really excited to learn how to drive, earn money and become more independent. But, equally, my responsibilities increasing and seeing the world getting uglier is also part of getting older which isn't so appealing!  As some of you may know, I am currently living away from my extended family: I live with my immediate family in the Middle East but my grandparents, cousins etc. all live in the UK (check out my perks of growing up in different cultures post for more insight). Ever...

How I'm Making The Most Out Of Summer 2020

Image
Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog. As we all know, summer 2020 is going to be very different- at least for the first half of it. The country I live in is still enforcing strict lockdown rules- meaning my summer is not going to be the same. No late-night trips with friends. No family lunches. Even doing some of the most normalised summer activities, such as going to the cinema, are now threats to our health. In this post, I'm going to be talking about how I'm feeling about this situation and what I'm doing about it.  I am a British expat living in the Middle East (stay tuned for another blog post about my personal situation and what it's like). Every summer, I go back to the UK for two and a half months and spend my summer there. To me, it's not a holiday, it's going home. Even though I have been living here for ten years (and I'm almost fifteen), the UK has something that the Middle East lacks for me: extended family. The other day, I was feeling quite...

The Racism and Prejudice in our Society

Image
Hi guys, I've sat here for a few hours, not knowing how to word this post. I'm usually quite articulate when it comes to writing things down- but, given recent events, I'm so disgusted, so confused, so angry, that I don't know where to begin. I've searched up statistics, I've typed and re-typed paragraphs, but nothing seems to come close to doing victims of racism justice.  I am a 2nd generation British Pakistani and I currently live in the Middle East (temporarily). Because of my ethnicity and race, I have experienced a few racist remarks. People mostly target the way my accent doesn't match the way I look- I have a British accent and, according to them, if I'm originally Asian, I must be faking my accent (this is obviously not the case). However, my experiences pale in comparison to others. Yes, these comments are infuriating and even humiliating, but I have never felt physically threatened because of my race. Maybe if I were darker, or had a different...

January Reflection and February Resolutions

Image
Hello everybody! Welcome back to my blog. Happy February! Honestly, it feels like January took forever to end. Usually time flies by, especially in such eventful months, but January took a long time for some reason.  We all know the worldwide things that happened in January. There were earthquakes, fires, an idol passed away and there was even a potential war. Not the best start to the year for all of us in my opinion! But there were also a lot if personal highlights for me- which I will be reflecting on in this post.  This month I...  Celebrated New Years with my family and friends. My family came over from New York and London and we spent the Christmas and New Year holidays together. Also, my really close friends came here too.  Got my mid year exam results back.  I'm in the British system and am in Year 10- the first year of my GCSEs. So these exams were technically the first exams I've ever sat as a GCSE student- and Alhamdulillah th...

Welcome To My Blog

Image
Hello everyone, Welcome to my blog. My name is Alisha and I'm a 14-year-old girl who... tends to go unnoticed. I'm the type of person who keeps her head down, has a few friends but nothing crazy and I'm usually overlooked. I'm the invisible girl- and I've always enjoyed it. The other day, though, I realised that not everyone feels this way. Sometimes, when we're overlooked, it hurts us. And that's okay too. That is one of the reasons why I made this blog. To make people feel like they're less alone and that other people do go through similar circumstances. Another reason is that I genuinely enjoy writing- a lot. There are more reasons, but these are the main two. I'll be honest: I have no idea where this blog is going to go. I don't really have a specific "niche" yet- I'm just going with the flow. For now, it's basically going to be a virtual diary. I'll write about my thoughts and feelings, successes and failu...
